It is said that time is money and while this is a philosophical moot point, the fundamental difference between time and money is that time is a non renewable commodity. It is no surprise then that the greatest gift a person can receive from anyone is some of their time. For this I am ever greatful to Evangeline van den Berg, my editor. (Writing is one thing but let me tell you, editing is a different story all together!) Also for the great title for the book! (Originally I had settled on Flying with Sharks, but Wings and Whale Sharks do have such a good ring to it!) Vangi, your time and encouragement was what saw this project home. Without you it would not have been possible. I am forever indebted to you. Thanks too to Udo Engelhardt for your encouragement that made me see the potential and need for this book. Thanks to Dr David Rowat for being the leader of the MCSS for without his direction and love for whale sharks many things would not have been possible – including this book. A special thanks to all who contributed photographs. Many are professional and parting with some of their art works for this book was an act of love. I have had the pleasure of spending much time with all of you and it is my privilege and honor to call you my friends. Katie Brooks, Luke Riley, Milena Palka, Guy Blain, Arthur Kingdon, Tony Baskeyfield, Lionel Pozoli, James Thompson, Donn du Preeze, Glen McKinley, David Middlemoor, Zoë Allen, Beverly Ho, Marianne Bjarheim, your contributions are not just to this book but to my life. Thanks to Juerg Brunnschweiler for your time and back ground on the diving habits of whale sharks (and other tid-bits of information!) Thanks to Tanya van den Berg for words of encouragement and reading one of the first drafts! To Tracey Pharaoh for your time and proof read of the completed manuscript and especially for your tireless explanations on the inner secrets of Coral Draw! To my parents, for your non stop support, even after 44 years of adventure! Too all my friends for listening and supporting this dream. To the special ladies in my life that provided the ingredients that made it all worth while. To God, for the courage to complete this book, for making it all come together and for saving my life.
