Between 2002 and 2008, Johan was the
chief survey pilot for the Marine Conservation Society of Seychelles. He played an
important part in the most intensive and longest running Marine Air-Survey Project in the
world. The project constitutes more than 12 years of seasonal air survey work, with over
40 000miles of official GPS recorded survey miles, covering more than 55000 square
kilometers of ocean (Thats twice around the world!).
The book is beautifully presented, constituting 196 pages, B5 size
with 26 full colour pages filled with photographs that will accurately direct your
imagination. The story gives an insight into life as a marine survey pilot and the
personal discovery by the pilot of the whale shark, the biggest fish in the world. Flying
a small microlight over the tropical blue ocean of the Islands of Seychelles, your
imagination and emotions will be captured. Participate in the discoveries of secrets about
these enigmatic fish, marine observational sampling, life threatening flying adventures,
romance and heartache in this in depth and often very personal memoir. (It is not just
about life in and on the sea but above it too!)
In a world where life often goes by unlived, you can catch up just by
reading this book! What else would you expect from the thrills and spills contained in
flying more than a thousand hours in a microlight over the open sea. |

The pilot's view!
Inter-action between sharks and swimmers
are just some of the stories noted in the book.

Watching a rain storm
It was imperative to keep track of the
weather while in the air. Becoming trapped by a storm is a real risk.
